Availability for workI am available to do keynote speeches or presentations, lead workshops and discussion groups, lectures and consultancy on Inclusive Education.
I have a wide experience of working with voluntary and statutory organisations, including many Local Education Authorities. In 2006 my work has ranged from leading workshops on education at a Human Rights conference organized by the Social Care Institute of Excellence, to speaking to a group of teachers from Beslan, Russia, for the British Council.
I am particularly interested in promoting the philosophy and practice of Inclusive Education and the Social Model of Disability through public lectures, talks at conferences, and training events for all those who are interested in understanding the issues at more than a superficial level. I am keen to develop work which explores the relationship between social class and exclusion.
This could be of interest to:
My presentations are always lively, interactive and challenging in a positive way. I use visual and musical resources, and often include poetry and drawings to help illustrate the issues.
I have been a Disability Equality Trainer since the 1980s. With others I have developed many resources and training materials to work with a wide variety of people to help them think about the issues of inclusion from the point of view of the ‘excluded’.
In the last few years I have done my own research into the history of institutionalisation, eugenics and the continued relationship between segregation and the advance of capitalism, which are very illuminating to the people who come on my courses.
Practical stuff:My average fee is £600 for a day but this is negotiable.
If the venue is more than 50 miles from Tooting, SW London, you will also need to budget for overnight accommodation for me and a PA.
If you are asking me to travel overseas, you will need to budget for a travel companion/assistant for the whole time including their fares and accommodation. For such trips I need at least three months notice.
I use a powered wheelchair and so all venues must be accessible.
If you are interested please start with an e-mail outlining your request, the date and the venue, plus the number of participants expected. I will then telephone you to discuss my availability and to customise the event according to need.
Poetry readingsI am also open to requests to do poetry readings.
